1. Helpful suggestions to share with juniors |
As you meet with juniors who are preparing for the college application process, here are a few suggested reminders to share from Ohio State:
-
Strength of curriculum matters. Continue to select challenging courses in academic areas such as math, science and foreign language.
-
If offered, you should also challenge yourself with advanced courses, like College Credit Plus, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate (or your local equivalent of those).
-
Test-optional status: Ohio State will remain test-optional for students applying for admission in autumn 2025. A decision about our test-optional status for students applying for autumn 2026 and beyond will be made next spring.
-
Note extra-curricular involvement. Take an inventory of all your clubs, summer activities and/or part-time jobs to simplify the application process later.
-
Ask for letters of recommendation early. It's best to request them before the end of the school year.
-
Create your Common Application profile early. The profile will automatically roll over to next year when the application opens on August 1.

A note from our assistant vice provost |
Thank you for your support of the more than 72,000 students who have applied for admission to the Columbus campus for autumn 2024.
We'll soon have a full picture of our applicant pool as the February 1 application deadline passes. This year, the target size for our first-year class has grown slightly to 8,200–8,350, up from last year's enrolled class of 7,983.
In the meantime, we wrapped up our early action decisions on January 19, and our total number of admission offers to the Columbus campus is up 11% compared to last year. Our offers of admission to the regional campuses are also tracking ahead by 21.3% — and by 57% for first-choice applicants.
Many thanks for your continued partnership in the new year. As always, to connect with us, please reach out to your admissions counselor or email us at askadmissions@osu.edu.
